Hampton University MMXI team won the 1st place for the pre-Tapia competition held at the 1st ARTSI Robotics Conference by Spelman College in March 2009. The team placed 2nd at this event, tied with Florida A&M University.

The ACM student chapter at Old Dominion University hosted the ODU ACM programming contest. Three universities participated at this event: Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, and Hampton University.
