The DPT Program at Hampton University participates in the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service, known as PTCAS. Applicants applying to the entry-level professional physical therapist program must apply online using the PTCAS application. Applicants can begin their PTCAS application in September of each year. The PT program application deadline for the current application period is January 16, 2012. To learn more about the PTCAS application process, please visit the PTCAS web site at www.ptcas.org. The Department of Physical Therapy Admissions Committee selects students for admission.
The following criteria must be met to enter the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program:
- Bachelor's Degree;
- Completion, with a "C" or better, of the following courses or their equivalent:
Course Hours General Biology I w/lab 4 hrs General Chemistry I w/lab 4 hrs General Chemistry II w/lab 4 hrs General Physics I w/lab 4-5 hrs General Physics II w/lab 4-5 hrs Human Anatomy w/lab 4 hrs Human Physiology w/lab 3 hrs Introduction to Statistics 3 hrs General Psychology 3 hrs *Anatomy and Physiology I & II can be substituted for Human Anatomy and Human Physiology - A minimum of 40 hours of volunteer or work experience in Physical Therapy (hospital, clinic etc.) with documentation signed by a licensed Physical Therapist.
- A 3.0 cumulative GPA of all coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.8 in the sciences pre-requisite courses;
- A knowledge of the profession as evidenced by a personal statement detailing the reasons for professional choice;
- Two letters of recommendation addressing the applicant's moral character and suitability for a Physical Therapy career;
- A personal interview with members of the Department of Physical Therapy Admissions Committee may be required;
- Results of the Graduate Record Examination (minimum 950 verbal and quantitative: copy of GRE)
- All science pre-requisites must have been completed within the last eight (8) years.
All pre-requisite courses must be completed by the end of the summer semester, prior to starting the program.
