Information Assurance Education

The IAC@HU is a multidisciplinary center devoted to Information Assurance Education, Research, and Training. The center provides program and curriculum development, workshops, multidisciplinary research opportunities, outreach to other HBCU/MI’s and Community Colleges, and access to IA research resources. As part of the center, the Information Assurance lab, located in the Computer Science Department, provides an isolated networked computer environment suitable for information assurance and computer security education, research, and training.

Goals

The goals of the IAC@HU include:

• Providing students with educational opportunities in Information Assurance and Computer Security.
• Providing an Information Assurance and Computer Security research environment for faculty, staff, and students.
• Providing Information Assurance and Computer Security resources not only within the University, but also to the local community, including law enforcement, government, business, and the public.
• Providing opportunities for enriching information assurance education across the curriculum.

Certificates

Hampton University is a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE) designated by National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. The IAC at HU awards the following certificates:

• Information Systems Security Professionals, NSTISSI No. 4011
• Senior System Manager, CNSSI No. 4012

Program Directors and Professors

  • Responsibility: oversee IA instructional program; teach IA related courses such as Information Security, Cryptography, Ethical Hacking and Network Defense.
• Dr. Jean Muhammad (Co-director)
  • Responsibility: oversee IA instructional program; teach IA related courses such as Risk Management.
• Dr. Lerone Banks (Co-director/ IA Professor)
  • Responsibility: oversee and support IA instructional program; teach IA related courses such as Network Security.

  • Responsibility: support IA instructional program; teach IA related courses such as Computer Forensics and Secure Coding.
